"P" is for Pincushion

Sewing: a little loaf of love.

A Valentine's Day pincushion.

But really perfect for anytime of the year.

Here's how I made the pincushion:

1. Cut piece of drop cloth to fit container.
Cut tiny red heart from scraps:

2. Hand stitch heart in place with buttonhole stitch:

3. Stitch long running stitch in rectangle shape around edge:
(you can barely see it here in white thread)

4. Pull ends of running stitch to gather together.
Then fill space with polyfill:

5. Once full and tight, knot ends of running stitch thread.
Place cushion down into container (filled halfway with pea gravel for weight), then hot glue around edges to hold in place.

6. Glue and tie ribbon around edge:

7. Add straight pins:

Ready for use:

Holiday appropriate but great for everyday use too.

I swiped the container from my kids play kitchen, it measures about 3.5" x 2" x 1.25"h:

It's perfect size for this little loaf:

And now serves a purpose as my pincushion:
