"M" is for Mantel #3

Winter mantel with book page topiaries:

Rolled book pages made into topiaries.

A continuation of the rolled paper projects, you can see all of the previous paper projects rounded up in this post.

Winter makes me want to go neutral with the space and as usual I have the tv above the fireplace dilemma.

Here's how I made the paper topiaries:

1. Using a 4" metal bucket fill with pea gravel and a 5 1/2" dowel:

2. Make paper rolls from old paperback books:

3. Start with the top and hot glue rolls onto dowel:

4. Then make base row:

5. Fill in base row:

6. Then add rows until full, stick some moss bits into base to fill empty spaces:

7. Add ribbon detail to bucket (I used bias tape):

Add other small pots with moss and ribbon in different sizes:

The lanterns are from Ikea - Morkt, $20 each.

And the burlap runner is from last winter, you can see the tutorial on how to make the runner here.

Nothing fancy, just enough to fill the space.

And now we wait for Spring.
