"T" is for Treat

A pumpkin bag for all those treats.

This pumpkin holds 3 whole bags of candy.

Batman didn't mind giving it a test drive, of course there was a candy incentive involved.

He's almost four and I sure hope he doesn't come home with that much candy.

I modified a tulip bag pattern (thanks Mom) making the body smaller, handles shorter and sewing process easier.

You can find the original pattern here.

With the tulip pattern you have an almost square base without making mitered corners (and all that bulk when you miter), see the bottom detail:

Perfect for any bag you want to stand alone and fill with stuff, in this case candy!

My bag measures about 5" square with a handle height about 4.5".

Here's how I made the treat bag:

Notes: all seams 1/4", press as you go.

1. Cut pieces:

4 - outer body
4 - lining
4 - lightweight fusible interfacing
2 - handles (10" x 2.5")
2 - heavy interfacing (10" x 3/4")

I used the 'petite' pattern from here and modified it even smaller for a 'mini' version.

2. Press handles around interfacing with finished edge.

3. Straight stitch down both sides, 1/8" from outer edge:

4. Iron fusible interfacing to wrong side of outer body fabric:

5. Sew side seams of body pieces, 1 to 2 and 3 to 4:

6. Sew remaining center seam:

View to inside:
(Repeat steps 5 and 6 for lining pieces.)

7. Turn body right side out and pin handles in place:

8. Keep lining wrong side out and stuff outer body inside lining, matching up seams.
Pin at seams around top edge:

10.  Sew all around top edge except one section leaving open about 4":
(Be sure to double back at handle points for extra stability.)

11. Turn bag right side out by pulling through the opening left in top seam:

12. Push lining down into bag, press top edge smooth, top stitch 1/8" from edge for finished look:

Ready for trick or treating!

Batman is ready too.

A quick, easy pattern with so many possibilities.

I have another project coming soon with this same pattern, stay tuned!
