Painted GATHER sign
For Fall, for family, for anytime.
Originally I had drawn up this sign as an option for a special order:
The customer decided on different look so I made her this sign:
But I still had the drawing and letters all ready printed out so I made use of the supplies and upcoming season to make this sign:
I did my best to keep the wheat from looking like a feather, I hope it's convincing.
Here's how I made the sign:
1. Painted 3/4" plywood scrap off white.
Print out GATHER letters to fit sign.
Trace letters using ballpoint pen to leave indent in wood.
2. Paint letters inside the indent left by the pen, first red, then brown.
3. Paint thin red border around edge.
4. Paint wheat starting with straw color paint, laying in the basic shape.
Then add lighter yellow and dark brown for details.
5. Sign ready for distressing.
6. Add brown 'shadow' lines to letters to give depth.
Stain with Minwax special walnut.
Seal with poly and add 2 sawtooth hangers on back.
