"S" is for Stools #2

Build: teacher stools

My girl #2 will be graduating Kindergarten in a few days, she and her classmates have been together with their teachers for the past three years so we wanted to make something special.

(The teachers' last names have been blurred out for privacy.)

I used Ana White's simplest stool plans to build stools for the teachers:

The seven Kindergarten classmates added their own special touch by leaving their fingerprints in paint on the stool seats:

And I handpainted their class year:

and all seven names on the rungs:

We used DecoArt Americana paints in bright colors to stand out against the black 'chalkboard' stool:

Here's how I made the stools:

1. Cut 15" circular seat tops from 3/4" plywood using jigsaw:

2. Spray paint both sides using flat black:

3. Print out teacher name to fit space (I used Calibri font, 150 point):

4. Have kids decorate seat tops with fingerprints:

5. Cut base pieces using Ana White's simplest stool plans:

6. Assemble legs, I used pocket holes with my Kreg jig throughout:

7. Assemble bases and sand smooth:

8. Spray paint bases with flat black.

Print out names to fit rungs, I used Calibri font, 100 point:

9. Line up names to fit rungs, using a ballpoint pen trace outline of letters:

10. The pen leaves an indent in the wood:

11. Paint on and inside the indent left behind from the pen:

13. Seal with clear acrylic gloss:
