"P" is for Play Table

I worked with Ana White again, she drew up the plans for this kids play table / desk and I happily did the build.

Complete with two full drawers:

And lots of fun colors on the drawer faces:

I happen to be a paint hoarder so I had all these colors on hand, below is a complete list of the brand and colors I used:

1. Green: Delta Ceramcoat acrylic spring green
2. Orange: Glidden sunbaked orange
3. White: Behr swiss coffee
4. Yellow: Benjamin Moore sunshine
5. Red: Liquitex basics cadmium red
6. Blue: Benjamin Moore ocean breeze

I made this play table at standard table height of 30" since my kids are 4, 6, and 7 and clearly there is enough space for two kids to work side by side:

Here's how I made the play table:

1. Using Ana's plans here cut the boards and construct.
I used pocket holes throughout and added the additional cross supports between the legs:

2. Cut and prime your six faux drawer faces:

3. Paint two coats each color:
(See color listing above for details.)

4. Distress edges, stain Minwax early american, seal with spray poly clear satin:

5. Stain the body of the play table Minwax special walnut.
Drawers installed and ready for faces:

6. Line up faces and mark screw holes for pulls:

7. Glue and nail faces behind where pull will be attached in order to hide nail holes:

8. Once all faces are on, pull out drawer, countersink and attach faces securely with 1 1/4" screws from inside drawer:

9. For the pulls I had an old library card catalog piece from Freecycle:

10. Remove 6 pulls and screws and clean with steel wool:

11. Amazing what a little steel wool and elbow grease can do!

12. Install clean pulls on drawer faces:
(See how nail heads are hidden behind the pull!)

The colors look awesome all lined up next to each other:

What kid wouldn't want to play here?  Or do their homework!

Thanks Ana as always.
