"M" is for Mudroom #3

I built custom size monogrammed bins for Hillary's mudroom.

Painted with high gloss enamel and sealed with clear lacquer.

They are sleek, you can see the glossy finish here:

The bright turquoise color matches the cushions from the kitchen chairs:

Here's the before:

And now with the new bins:

Here's how I made the bins:


1. Cut pieces to size using 1/2" plywood.
To achieve the tapered look the bottom measurement is 1.5" less on each side than the top.

2. Make a template for the cut out handle and mark each face piece:

3. Cut out handle with jig saw:

4. Assemble.

Pre-drill your holes with a countersink bit, I used #6 x 1 1/2" wood screws:

4. Add a bead of wood glue:

5. Screw sides together:

6. Once all four sides are together, nail on 1/4" plywood bottom.

Putty and sand.

7. One coat primer:

8. Two coats Benjamin Moore fog mist hi gloss enamel on interior, three coats on exterior:

Prepare the monogram, print out letter to size:

Using a ballpoint pen trace the letter to leave an indent in the wood.

9. Paint inside the indent:

(Benjamin Moore fairytale blue hi gloss enamel)

10. Print out remaining letters smaller and do the same:

11. Seal the face piece with Rustoleum spray clear lacquer, three coats:

12. Apply white felt to bottom using spray adhesive.

Cut to fit each bin as size will vary, once adhered trim edges:

And now Hillary has a neat and organized mudroom.
