"O" is for Ornaments #2

Bumper sticker inspired ornaments.

PT. LKT stands for Point Lookout.

These ornaments will be at the Arts & Crafts Market on Saturday.

Inspired by these bumper stickers:

Lots of folks around town have these bumper stickers on their cars.

Now they can have a similar keepsake on their Christmas tree:

Here's how I made them:

1. Use craft wood precut into oval shapes, paint 2 coats flat white on front only.

2. Print out letters, place wood oval under paper, trace letters with ballpoint pen to get an indent.
Paint inside indent with navy blue acrylic.

3. Once dry, sand edges smooth and any excess off backside using 120 grit.

4. Apply light coat Minwax stain, cherry.
Seal with clear acrylic spray.

5. Drill holes to accommodate string thickness:

6. Thread string through and tie knots:

7. For added decoration prepare greenery and berries by tying together with ribbon:

8. Glue to wood.

I like the ornaments both ways, with decoration and without:

These would be cute with any town name, ACK?  Or how about school - RES anyone?

"O" is for Ornaments

Pinwheel ornaments.

Christmas is a few months away but these ornaments are going to the craft market at the beach next weekend.

I used the cake pop tower I had made here, changed out the ribbon and stuck in the ornaments.
Makes for a perfect display stand.

I had made the pinwheels for a 4th of July tree decoration:

You can see the how-to on the pinwheels here.

I plucked the pinwheels off the tree, added a ribbon, stick and banner and now they are ornaments:

Here's how I made the ornaments:

1. Follow the pinwheel construction in the post here.

2. Using bamboo skewers cut 4" pieces for the sticks:

3. Print out the banner tag and cut into strips:

4. Lay the pinwheel face down, apply hot glue, lay ribbon across pinwheel and then stick in center:

5. Wrap banner tag around stick, glue and trim ends:

Here's how I made the ribbon trim on the tower:

1. Cut 1 1/2" wide strips from blue fabric:

2. Sew strips together at short ends, press long raw edges in about 3/8":

3. Straight stitch down the middle making pleats as you go:

4. Hot glue the pleated trim onto edge of the tower:

5. Completed trim with ornaments:

So fun I want a whole pinwheel tree this Christmas.

"C" is for Coasters #2

Custom coasters as favors for a golf outing.

The theme for the golf outing is 'Swinging Under The Stars' which is why the letters S, U, T, S are printed on the coasters.

A fun, useful favor to remember the event.

Here's how I made the coasters:

1. Using 3 3/4"diameter chipboard circles (found here), cover each circle with canvas using Mod Podge.

Use a heavy object to weigh down the fabric covered circles while they're drying.

2. Once dry trim the excess fabric from around the edge:

3. Draw, stamp or paint your design.

I designed this logo for the outing, a golf ball with the letters inside and stars above.

For the golf ball I traced around a water bottle cap:

4. Then I stamped the letter inside the ball:

All 48 golf balls and letters are on:

5. Next stamp the stars and draw on some dimples with permanent black pen:

6. Seal with one coat Mod Podge:

7. Once dry clean off all loose canvas threads around edges and sand top surface smooth using 120 grit:

This is an absolutely necessary step, see the difference below, the coaster on the left has NOT be sanded and the one on the right has been sanded.

8. Apply one more coat of Mod Podge and let dry.

9. Seal with spray Poly clear satin, two coats.

All packaged up and ready to hand out as favors:

Thanks Julie for a fun project, hope your golfing friends enjoy their coasters.
